Trial & Speed Trial Competitions

The entire competition is conducted in accordance with the IUF Rulebook 2019, supplemented by a few adaptations.

General Rules

Safety Rules

  • Helmet and shoes are mandatory.
  • Shin guards, knee pads, and gloves are recommended.
  • Only participants and volunteers are allowed in the riding area. During the Trial finals, one helper per rider is additionally permitted.

Age Groups

The participant’s age on the first day of competition (25/07/2026) is decisive for the allocation to age groups.

Male and female athletes will be ranked separately. Age groups may be merged if fewer than 6 participants are registered in an age group.

Exception: The age groups U11, U15, U19, U30, U50 and U70 will not be merged with a higher age group.

The following age groups will be offered:

Unicycles

There are no restrictions regarding wheel size, crank length, or other technical features of the unicycles. There are also no restrictions on changing unicycles during the competition.

Protests

Protests must be submitted in writing to trial@unicon22.at no later than 12 hours after the publication of the qualification results.

During finals, protests must be reported directly on site to the Chief Judge.

Awards

Places 1–3 will be awarded in both the age groups and the finals.

Titles

The winners of the finals will receive the title “World Champion”. Silver medalists will receive the title “Vice World Champion”, while bronze medalists will achieve third place at the World Championships.

Speed Trial

The Speed Trial competition consists of a qualification round and a final.

Qualification Round

During qualifications, time will be measured. Each participant has 3 attempts. The best attempt counts as the qualification time.

Each rider is responsible for completing their qualification runs within the time scheduled in the official timetable.

Final

There will be two separate finals:

  • Expert Female category (participants from all female age groups combined)
  • Expert Male category (participants from all male age groups combined)

The 16 riders with the fastest qualification times from both categories qualify for the final.

The final will take place in the form of battles. The battle format is described in the IUF Rulebook 2019.

Trial

The Trial competition consists of a qualification round and a final.

Qualification Round

Each participant will take part in a qualification round. The goal is to complete as many lines as possible within the given time.

The lines are divided into three categories:

  • Easy (E) – 1 point
  • Medium (M) – 3 points
  • Hard (H) – 7 points

If all Medium lines are successfully completed, the Easy lines do not need to be ridden.

Final

There will be two separate finals:

  • Expert Female category (participants from all female age groups combined)
  • Expert Male category (participants from all male age groups combined)

The 10 riders with the highest qualification scores from both categories qualify for the final.
